FAQs

1. Do have a database of minority manufacturers?
Yes and No - We maintain a comprehensive flat file of Minority Small Manufacturing Enterprises (MSMEs) data from which our Members have access to different “data views” which some call a database. As reflected in the below graphic, our data files are developed at seven (7) different stages. Our Level-1 “data view” has the least value for “qualifying and selecting” MSMEs for value-added sourcing opportunity. Our data view development begins with Level-1 [outreach and contact files] and builds over time to Level 7 [MSME Key Performance Indicators (KPIs for collaborated and synchronized supply chains]

2. Can we obtain a copy of your database?
Only our Members have access to different “views” of our MSME data. While useful for outreach and identifying, we believe that Level 1 [contact and short descriptive] data does not provide useful data for qualifying a MSME and may result in real disservice to the MSME without the commitment and infrastructure for follow-up. For the Corporation committed to supply chain diversity, Level 1 data [our database to most] is just the beginning of value. In it, there is a large number of MSMEs at higher risk levels; at the conclusion of our MSME improvement process, there a much smaller number of MSMEs with lowered risk levels and greater value. Our Members are the Corporations committed to working us to develop this data file of MSMEs.

3. How does NMMI measure MSME value?

Determination of MSME value is a collaborative process with Corporations. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs varie by Industry Groups (IGs) and the Types of Manufacturing within those IGs.Our Surveying, Assessment and Performance Benchmarking describes how we commence the process of value development. At each progressive stage of development, we work with Corporations through Industry Sourcing Advisory Panels (ISAPs) and collect data that is complied and analyzed by NMMI and its third party independent data analytics partner. Adding further to base data required for benchmarking performance, we will soon commence a National MSME Performance Benchmarking Project which will provide a performance based data set on the current state of minority manufacturing in America. This project will be discussed in greater detail at the upcoming National Symposium.
